Fruit of the Spirit: SELF-CONTROL

Fruit of the Spirit: SELF-CONTROL

Today we wrap up our series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Pastor Kenny takes a look at Self-Control, making us aware of the “war” between our flesh and spirit, and encouraging us to be fierce in our pursuit of the Kingdom. Our fight for self-control leads to perseverance, which leads to godliness, so we take up our crosses knowing that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to prevail.

Fruit of the Spirit: GENTLENESS

On this Father’s Day, Pastor Kenny discusses the penultimate aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit, Gentleness. We find living in Gentleness to be countercultural in a world of “owning” the opposition and fighting to win every argument. Instead, we model ourselves after a Savior who was “gentle and humble in heart”, taking up his yolk and acknowledging our spiritual poverty so that we can avoid worldly pride and ambition, while still using our strength to advocate for others. Bridgeway was able to provide copies of “Gentle and Lowly” by Dane Ortlund, seek this book out for further study.

Fruit of the Spirit: FAITHFULNESS

The subject of this week’s message is the Fruit of Faithfulness. While often incorrectly defined as how much faith we have in God, Faithfulness is most often describing how much faith others can put in you. We model our own dependability on the ultimate dependability and reliability of God. We should be a people who others can trust to never lie, to shepherd well, and to practice faithfulness with our full devotion.

Fruit of the Spirit: GOODNESS

In this message, Pastor Kenny differentiates Goodness from the other aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit. Goodness is complex, encompassing the absolute moral rightness of God, while also used to mean “fitting”, “ordered”, and “beautiful”. It is a mindset but also an act, and must be rooted in God’s definition of Good as described in his Word. It is “virtue and holiness in action.”

Fruit of the Spirit: KINDNESS

Today Pastor Kenny discusses the fruit of Kindness, how it differs from being “nice” or “tolerant”, and how kindness is fully realized when acted out in response to unkind people, with our eyes set on a God who was similarly kind to an unkind world.
