Summer 2024 – Josh Sousa
This summer, we get to hear from a host of guest speakers while Pastor Kenny is away on sabbatical. Kicking us off is Josh Sousa, Director of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at IUPUI. Josh brings a challenging message, encouraging us in the Church to go be missionaries, rather than asking it of those we are trying to reach. We are to seek in every aspect of our lives to embody the love of God, claiming our identity in Him as family, servants, and sent ones. We were not commanded to create “small groups” that meet once a week, but to live life in real community with those we are trying to reach.
Family Sunday, June 2024
On this Family Sunday, we welcome those who went on our most recent mission trip to Mexico with Homes of Hope to give their thoughts and takeaways from what they experienced. Then Pastor Kenny brings a special final message before his sabbatical, focusing on the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-5), God’s greatest command, and Jesus’s second greatest, to love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:29-31).
Fruit of the Spirit: SELF-CONTROL
Today we wrap up our series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Pastor Kenny takes a look at Self-Control, making us aware of the “war” between our flesh and spirit, and encouraging us to be fierce in our pursuit of the Kingdom. Our fight for self-control leads to perseverance, which leads to godliness, so we take up our crosses knowing that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to prevail.
Fruit of the Spirit: GENTLENESS
On this Father’s Day, Pastor Kenny discusses the penultimate aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit, Gentleness. We find living in Gentleness to be countercultural in a world of “owning” the opposition and fighting to win every argument. Instead, we model ourselves after a Savior who was “gentle and humble in heart”, taking up his yolk and acknowledging our spiritual poverty so that we can avoid worldly pride and ambition, while still using our strength to advocate for others. Bridgeway was able to provide copies of “Gentle and Lowly” by Dane Ortlund, seek this book out for further study.
Fruit of the Spirit: FAITHFULNESS
The subject of this week’s message is the Fruit of Faithfulness. While often incorrectly defined as how much faith we have in God, Faithfulness is most often describing how much faith others can put in you. We model our own dependability on the ultimate dependability and reliability of God. We should be a people who others can trust to never lie, to shepherd well, and to practice faithfulness with our full devotion.
Fruit of the Spirit: GOODNESS
In this message, Pastor Kenny differentiates Goodness from the other aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit. Goodness is complex, encompassing the absolute moral rightness of God, while also used to mean “fitting”, “ordered”, and “beautiful”. It is a mindset but also an act, and must be rooted in God’s definition of Good as described in his Word. It is “virtue and holiness in action.”
Fruit of the Spirit: KINDNESS
Today Pastor Kenny discusses the fruit of Kindness, how it differs from being “nice” or “tolerant”, and how kindness is fully realized when acted out in response to unkind people, with our eyes set on a God who was similarly kind to an unkind world.
Fruit of the Spirit: PATIENCE
Welcome to Bridgeway, and Happy Mother’s Day! Today we dive back into our discussion of the Fruit of the Spirit. Pastor Kenny explores the concept of forbearance, defined by Paul Tripp as “patience under provocation”, and how God’s mercy and compassion towards us despite our provocations should inspire us to practice Biblical “retaliation” towards others.
Step Into The Story
Today we welcome a returning friend of Bridgeway, Josh Reynolds. Josh is with New International (formerly NMSI), an international community of 200+ missionaries serving in 26 countries in ministries of church multiplication, community transformation, global youth ministry and marketplace ministry.
Fruit of the Spirit: PEACE
Today, Pastor Kenny brings a message on the third aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit, Peace. Though we may struggle with anxiety, worry, or depression, Paul reveals the remedy to our unrest: living at peace with God through Jesus Christ.
Fruit of the Spirit: JOY
Today, Pastor Kenny continues in our Fruit of the Spirit series. Appropriately, we take the opportunity of celebrating Baptism Sunday to discuss the Fruit of Joy.
Fruit of the Spirit: LOVE
Join us as Pastor Kenny expands on the Fruit of Love, discussing its many forms and why it is considered the greatest.
